Finding Support for Your Child

Updated: Aug 1

Woman embraces two children in a cheerful home setting. Child in blue dress laughs; boy in gray shirt snuggles close.

Finding support for your child shouldn’t feel this hard, but it often does. Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis, facing long waitlists, or just unsure where to start, it can all feel overwhelming.

We’ve been there. And we’re building a community to make this process less confusing, less isolating, and a whole lot more supportive.

What Counts as Pediatric Support?

Pediatric support services go far beyond the standard checkups. These are specialists and therapists who help kids with how they move, eat, speak, learn, and connect with others. Common types of care include:

  • Occupational therapy (OT)

  • Speech and language therapy

  • Feeding therapy

  • Behavioral therapy

  • Developmental and diagnostic evaluations

Some families come in with a diagnosis. Many don’t. Both are valid starting points. You don’t need all the answers to begin looking for help.

What to Look For in a Provider

There’s no perfect formula, but here’s what often matters most:

  • Trust and communication – You should feel heard and respected

  • Experience – Especially with your child’s age or area of need

  • Accessibility – Think about location, cost, and whether they’re taking new clients

  • Philosophy – Do they take an approach that aligns with your child and family?

This is about fit — not just credentials. If it doesn’t feel right, you’re allowed to keep looking.

You Don’t Have to Do This Alone

The best advice often comes from other parents. That’s why we created the Nested Collective directory, a growing list of local providers recommended by families who’ve been there.

We’re not here to tell you who to choose, but to help you see your options clearly and feel more supported in the process.

If you’re looking for help, start here.
